Renault's Sirotkin gets Le Mans outing
12 May 2017 – Renault reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin will make his debut in the World Endurance Championship at the Le Mans 24 Hours next month.
Sirotkin, 21, has been part of Renault's Formula 1 team since 2016 and will participate in the opening practice session in Spain later on Friday morning.
Sirotkin has been recruited to pilot a Dallara P217 in LMP2 at the iconic 24-hour race under the SMP Guise, the Russian company which backs his career.
The youngster will link up with IndyCar racer Mikhail Aleshin and Viktor Shaytar for the event.
"It was already a good tradition for us to perform at Le Mans with a the Russian crew," said Boris Rothenberg, SMP Racing chief.
"Although we are focused on building the LMP1 sport prototype for the 2018 season, we cannot help [but] take part in the most prestigious race on the planet."
