Kvyat optimistic over 2018 Toro Rosso chances
28 July 2017 – Daniil Kvyat says he hopes to extend his stay with Toro Rosso into 2018 and that he is simply waiting on Red Bull chiefs to make a decision.
Kvyat made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2014 before graduating to Red Bull for 2015, though was demoted back to the junior squad prior to the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.
Kvyat has scored only four points this season, but is optimistic that he will be retained for another year, and sees no reason to leave.
"So far, from what I have heard, I just stand by and I'm waiting for Red Bull's decision," he said of his future, when asked by GPUpdate.net.
"I don't see a reason why I would want to leave Toro Rosso, I still believe that I want to be part of this project and I still believe in the potential of this team.
"I believe it can be worth it if things come together nicely.
"I'm still very young, I have time, so there's no point trying to annoy Red Bull with pushing them [for a decision] too much."
On the potential timeframe involved, Kvyat replied: "I think pretty soon, to be honest, we're already not far from knowing everything about 2018."
Red Bull has previously confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. will continue to race for Toro Rosso in 2018.
