Renault-backed Aitken to get first F1 run
18 September 2017 – Renault Sport Academy member Jack Aitken will get his first run in Formula 1 machinery during a private test at the Circuito de Jerez this week.
Aitken joined Renault's revived scheme upon the manufacturer's return to Formula 1 in 2016, and placed fifth in the GP3 championship, alongside selected outings in Formula V8 3.5 and Euroformula Open.
Aitken has remained in the tertiary category this season, switching to the dominant ART outfit, and holds second, 43 points behind Mercedes-backed George Russell, with two rounds left.
Aitken will pilot the team's 2012-spec E20, which has been used by several drivers – including Sergey Sirotkin, Nicholas Latifi and Robert Kubica – during private testing at the Spanish venue.
Renault tester Sirotkin, who has had multiple outings in the E20 this year, is also set to be present.
Renault has already confirmed its 2018 Formula 1 driver line-up, with Carlos Sainz Jr. joining on loan from Red Bull's stable, partnering incumbent Nico Hülkenberg.
