Sauber confirms Leclerc for four FP1 runs
21 September 2017 – Sauber will field Ferrari-backed Charles Leclerc during four practice sessions over the remainder of the season, ahead of an anticipated full-time deal for 2018.
Formula 2 title leader Leclerc was initially tipped for five outings, but Sauber has now clarified that he will appear in FP1 in Malaysia, the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Leclerc holds a 59-point lead in this year's F2 standings, having claimed seven out of a possible nine pole positions, five victories and two further podiums.
With Ferrari handing new deals to Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel, Leclerc is hoping to slot in at Sauber, which will again be powered by the Scuderia next year.
Marcus Ericsson will step aside for Leclerc in Malaysia.
Leclerc tested Ferrari's 2017-spec car during the post-Hungarian Grand Prix gathering earlier this year, and also made several free practice runs with Haas in 2016.
