Prototype Inters to be available for FP1/2
19 October 2017 – Pirelli will make a set of prototype Intermediate tyres available for each driver during Friday practice for the United States Grand Prix.
Pirelli is attempting to hone its products for 2018 and an extra batch of the green-banded rubber will be on hand during both sessions for "evaluation purposes".
Under current regulations, each driver has seven sets of wet-weather tyre compound available at every event – four Intermediates and three Wets.
Mixed weather is expected to affect the Circuit of the Americas on Friday, with two 90-minute practice sessions scheduled.
In dry conditions, the Ultra Soft, Super Soft and Soft tyres will be on hand for the drivers.
In a change to the usual scheme, the Ultra Soft compound will be pink-banded, rather than purple, as part of Formula 1's drive for breast cancer awareness this weekend.
