Pirelli expects two-stop United States GP
22 October 2017 – Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli believes a two-stop strategy will "theoretically" be the fastest approach in dry conditions at the United States Grand Prix.
The majority of this season's races have been won using a one-stop approach, with drivers completing the opening stint on the softest compound, before switching to the second-softest tyre.
Pirelli has nominated the Ultra Soft (pink), Super Soft (red) and Soft (yellow), with the leading runners all set to start the race on the Ultra Soft compound.
"The fastest race strategy at the Circuit of the Americas is theoretically a two-stopper: two stints on Ultra Softs of 18 laps each, followed by one stint on Super Softs," Pirelli stated.
"The second-fastest strategy is also a two-stopper: one stint on Ultra Softs (18 laps) plus two stints on Super Softs of 19 laps each.
"Finally, if degradation is lower, a one-stopper could work for the 56-lap race: one 21-lap stint on Ultra Softs, then Super Softs to flag."
Lewis Hamilton will start from pole position, with Sebastian Vettel alongside on the front row of the grid.
