In photos: Kubica's Williams test at Yas Marina
28 November 2017 – Following three runs with Renault, and two private Williams outings, Robert Kubica sampled the Grove-based team's 2017 Formula 1 car at the Yas Marina Circuit. GPUpdate.net provides a brief overview.
After the usual preparation meetings and discussions on Monday, Kubica entered the Williams garage at the Yas Marina Circuit in a buoyant mood, giving the thumbs-up to the assembled throng of photographers.
With his trademark pink helmet tweaked to complement Williams' Martini livery, Kubica got strapped into the FW40 and embarked on the day's programme in hot and sunny conditions at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue.
Running Williams' test number of 40, Kubica racked up the mileage on track, seven years after his most recent Formula 1 race, with Renault at the corresponding circuit.
In between runs, Kubica discussed proceedings with his management team, which includes 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, the pair having first encountered each other during their karting days.
The Pole, as ever, was cheered on by an enthusiastic cluster of trackside supporters, who brought flags and banners, as they did at his previous public test run at the Hungaroring in early August.
Kubica completed further runs, ultimately amassing 100 laps – almost two race distances – before handing over to Lance Stroll, finishing 3.5 seconds off the pace, as the only driver not to clock their best time on Hyper Softs.
Running over, it was time for Kubica's media duties, with the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner speaking to TV crews, before sitting down with written media for over 20 minutes outside Williams' hospitality unit.
