Richelmi claims maiden GP2 pole position
5 July 2013 – Stéphane Richelmi claimed his maiden GP2 pole position with a dominant qualifying performance at the Nürburgring on Friday afternoon. The DAMS driver, who delivered a personal best time of 1:38.487, led team-mate Marcus Ericsson by 0.276 seconds, while Hilmer Motorsport driver Robin Frijns completed the top three.
As the session entered its closing stages, Ericsson was in prime position to seal the top spot, but a blistering late run from Richelmi saw him usurp his team-mate in fine style. Fellow rookies Frijns and Mitch Evans (Arden) locked out the second row of the grid, just ahead of Carlin driver Felipe Nasr and Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer.
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs impressed en route to seventh and will share row four with compatriot James Calado, while Russian Time drivers Sam Bird and Tom Dillmann rounded out the top ten. Championship leader Stefano Coletti finished 13th.
Saturday's Feature Race at the Nürburgring gets underway at 3.40pm local time
