Vandoorne surges to fourth straight GP2 pole
21 November 2014 – Stoffel Vandoorne claimed his fourth consecutive pole position after topping Friday's qualifying session for the final round of the GP2 Season in Abu Dhabi.
Vandoorne emerged on top in a close battle with champion Jolyon Palmer and his eventual time of 1:48.088 proved to be almost a tenth quicker than his DAMS rival.
Stephane Richelmi briefly topped the times and ended in third place, ahead of Russian Time racer Mitch Evans.
Felipe Nasr, who will race for Sauber in Formula 1 next season, was fifth fastest for Carlin, ahead of Red Bull-backed rookie Pierre Gasly, who secured his best grid slot.
Arthur Pic was seventh for Campos Racing, while Raffaele Marciello egded out Racing Engineering team-mate Stefano Coletti for eighth place.
However, Marciello will drop five places on the grid as a result of colliding with Palmer at the start of the last race in Russia.
Rio Haryanto ensured that both Caterham cars will start inside the top 10 for the team's final race in the GP2 Series.
The Feature Race from the Yas Marina Circuit begins on Saturday at 18:40 local time (GMT +4)
