Albon tops second day of Formula 2 test

14 March 2017 – ART Grand Prix rookie Alexander Albon topped the second day of Formula 2's opening pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Albon, who finished second to team-mate Nobuharu Matsushita on the first test day, moved to the front with a 1:28.225 in Tuesday morning's session.
Two red flags were thrown before lunch, firstly when circuit officials wanted to inspect a section of track, and secondly when Gustav Malja hit trouble.
Racing Engineering's Malja stopped at Turn 7 after appearing to run out of fuel, his times deleted when officials deemed that the car was underweight.
Albon clocked his benchmark lap time between the two stoppages, which both lasted for around five minutes, to finish 0.025 seconds ahead of Rapax rival Johnny Cecotto Jr.
Artem Markelov was third for Russian Time, in front of Nicholas Latifi (DAMS), Norman Nato (Arden) and team-mate Luca Ghiotto – the quartet covered by just over a tenth.
Oliver Rowland took seventh in the other DAMS-run machine, with Antonio Fuoco, who finished back in 17th yesterday, working his way up to eighth place for Prema Racing.
MP Motorsport's Jordan King wound up ninth, with Charles Leclerc (Prema) completing the top 10, as Rapax rookie Nyck de Vries topped the much slower afternoon session.
Matsushita only slightly improved on his day one time in 12th.
Formula 2 testing continues in Barcelona on Wednesday
