Trident confirms Ferrucci for rest of F2 season
26 July 2017 – Trident has confirmed that Haas Formula 1 development driver Santino Ferrucci will contest the final five rounds of the Formula 2 season, stepping up from GP3.
American racer Ferrucci, 18, initially stuck with DAMS in GP3 for the 2017 campaign, but will step into Trident's #17 seat in F2, alongside Nabil Jeffri, from Hungary.
Trident had fielded several drivers in the car over the first half of the season, with Sergio Canamasas, Raffaele Marciello and Callum Ilott all making appearances.
Ferrucci tested for Trident at last year's GP3 post-season gathering in Abu Dhabi.
"We are really proud to announce the agreement reached between Trident and Santino Ferrucci for the final five rounds of the Formula 2 season," said Trident team boss Giacomo Ricci.
"He already had the chance to test one of our GP3 cars; he impressed the team's staff, bringing home great results and keeping his name among the top five at all times.
"He is now set to make his F2 debut at Budapest, on the same track where he led the way in GP3 testing.
"I am sure that he has all the skills needed to adapt to an F2 car very quickly. Thanks to his F1 experience, he will not have problems managing more power and carbon fibre brakes."
Ferrucci has been a member of Haas' F1 set-up since its debut season, attending test sessions and races, and participating in the team's simulator programme.
He went on to complete two days of running during in-season testing at Silverstone, becoming the first American to drive an American F1 car since Danny Ongais in 1977.
Haas will also run Ferrucci at next week's F1 test at the Hungaroring.
