3 September 2017 – Luca Ghiotto avenged his Feature Race time penalty as he surged forward to triumph on home soil in the Formula 2 Sprint Race at Monza.
Ghiotto claimed victory in an extraordinary Feature Race but was handed a post-race time penalty which demoted him to fourth, meaning he started Sunday's reversed-grid encounter from fifth.
Ghiotto maintained position at the start before quickly moving up the order, and took the lead from Louis Delétraz into the first Lesmo mid-distance.
Ghiotto quickly put a gap back to the chasing drivers and crossed the line with a two-second buffer over Sérgio Sette Câmara, who registered another fine result for MP Motorsport.
Antonio Fuoco followed up his inherited Feature Race win with third place, as he bridged the gap to Delétraz and passed during the closing stages.
Delétraz nonetheless claimed fourth spot, ahead of Roberto Merhi and Sean Gelael, who led the opening laps after jumping forward from the second row of the grid.
Nobuharu Matsushita spearheaded a frenetic battle involving most of the usual front-runners, narrowly beating ART team-mate Alexander Albon in the process.
Title leader Charles Leclerc was involved in the thick of the action, having started from 17th place, but missed out on the points after coming home ninth, in front of Norman Nato and Oliver Rowland.
1. Charles Leclerc - 218 points
2. Oliver Rowland - 159 points
3. Artem Markelov - 152 points
The next round of the season takes place at Jerez from October 6-8
