Norris to make F2 debut in Abu Dhabi
12 November 2017 – McLaren-backed youngster Lando Norris will make his debut in the Formula 2 championship at the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi, as he evaluates his 2018 options.
Norris claimed this year's European Formula 3 championship in his rookie campaign and will bow out of the division at the conclusion of next weekend's Macau Grand Prix.
Norris, and McLaren, for whom he will act as reserve driver in Formula 1 next year, are assessing his 2018 options, with Formula 2 and Super Formula understood to be in the running.
The Briton, who turns 18 on Monday, will compete in Formula 2 at the Yas Marina Circuit for Campos, alongside Álex Palou.
"Having won the Formula 3 championship at my first attempt this year, I will either step up to Formula 2 or Super Formula in 2018 towards my goal of one day racing in Formula 1," he said.
"To get the opportunity to contest the last two races of this year's F2 season is therefore a bonus whichever category I ultimately choose.
"It'll be the first time I've ever competed in a race that includes a compulsory pit-stop and so this will also be a new experience for me."
Norris will conduct tyre testing duties for McLaren at Interlagos on Tuesday, and will travel straight to Macau for the Formula 3 event.
