Russell, Norris headline post-season F2 test
29 November 2017 – GP3 and Formula 3 champions George Russell and Lando Norris are among youngsters who will be in action during Thursday's first day of post-season FIA Formula 2 testing at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Mercedes-backed Russell claimed the GP3 crown in his rookie year, alongside Force India practice runs, while McLaren protégé Lando Norris won the Formula 3 title, also as a rookie.
The pair will test with ART Grand Prix and Campos respectively, the latter adding to his experience despite already having a 2018 deal with the returning Carlin operation.
Russell is expected to graduate to Formula 2, ostensibly with ART, and he will be joined at the French squad by 2017 GP3 team-mate, Renault-affiliated Jack Aitken.
2017 Formula 2 runner-up Artem Markelov will once again be in action for Russian Time, alongside Honda protégé Tadasuke Makino, despite the squad's uncertain future, having been left off the 2018 entry list.
Mercedes-affiliated Maximilian Günther, third in Formula 3 in 2017, will test for Racing Engineering, as will veteran Norman Nato, who competed for the squad in GP2 last year.
Alexander Albon switches from ART to DAMS, joining incumbent Nicholas Latifi, while Luca Ghiotto will link up with Louis Delétraz at MP Motorsport.
Haas Formula 1 development drivers Arjun Maini and Santino Ferrucci will test for Trident, while Ferrari-backed F3 podium finisher Guan Yu Zhou will get experience with the departing Rapax squad.
Honda junior Nirei Fukuzumi, third in GP3, will join Arden for his first F2 test, along with Ralph Boschung, who competed in all bar one 2017 round for Campos.
Prema, which guided Charles Leclerc to the 2017 title, will field Sean Gelael and Nyck de Vries, its confirmed 2018 line-up.
This week's test, which runs from Thursday through Saturday, alternating running with GP3, will be the last to feature the GP2/11, with the new F2 2018 package to be run early next year.
