Albon edges Nato to finish F2 test on top
2 December 2017 – DAMS' Alexander Albon clocked the quickest time of the week as Formula 2's three-day post-season test at the Yas Marina Circuit came to a close, the final track action for the GP2/11 chassis.
Albon, having switched from ART to DAMS for the test, posted a time of 1:48.110 to finish 0.005s clear of Norman Nato, who ran for departing squad Rapax, with the quickest laps coming in the evening session.
Nyck de Vries finished third as he continued to assimilate with his 2018 team, Prema, while GP3 graduate Jack Aitken placed fourth for ART.
MP Motorsport's Louis Delétraz finished fifth, in front of DAMS stalwart Nicholas Latifi, as Friday pacesetter Arjun Maini took seventh, running once more for Russian Time.
Luca Ghiotto (MP Motorsport), Tadasuke Makino (Russian Time) and Oliver Rowland (Racing Engineering) rounded out a top 10 covered by just 0.551s.
Trident pair Santino Ferrucci and Antonio Fuoco were next up, in front of Ferrari-backed Guan Yu Zhou (Rapax) and Honda protégé Nirei Fukuzumi (Arden).
Lando Norris brought a busy spell, encompassing Formula 3, Formula 2 and Formula 1 action, to a close in 15th spot for Campos, ahead of his switch to Carlin for 2018.
Sean Gelael took 16th, in front of Campos' Leonardo Pulcini – who hit the wall at Turn 3 – and Arden's Pietro Fittipaldi, while GP3 champion George Russell was restricted to 19th after an engine failure.
Thiago Vivacqua, testing for Racing Engineering, finished at the rear of the 20-car field.
The first official pre-season test of 2018 will begin on March 6 at Paul Ricard
