Gutiérrez gets green light for Toronto race
16 July 2017 – Dale Coyne driver Esteban Gutiérrez has been cleared to compete in Sunday's IndyCar event around the streets of Toronto, following a medical check-up.
Gutiérrez crashed heavily during Saturday's qualifying session and was diagnosed as having suffered concussion-like symptoms.
The Mexican rookie was initially not cleared to drive, and required a second medical evaluation on Sunday morning, ahead of the race.
Gutiérrez was assessed by the championship's Medical Director Dr. Michael Olinger and has now duly been passed fit to race.
Gutiérrez, filling in for the injured Sébastien Bourdais, is set to start from the rear of the 21-car field.
Penske's Simon Pagenaud will lead the field away at the green flag after going quickest in qualifying.
