Saavedra gets SPM seat for next two rounds
16 August 2017 – Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) has announced that Sebastián Saavedra will pilot the No. 7 Honda for the next two rounds of the IndyCar campaign.
Saavedra appeared for SPM in Toronto earlier this season, in place of Mikhail Aleshin, who has now parted ways with the team, following off-track complications.
Aleshin missed practice at Road America amid visa issues, having raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans the previous week, and did not take part in the Toronto event.
Saavedra, who made his IndyCar debut in 2010 and has represented several teams, will thus partner James Hinchcliffe at Pocono Raceway and Gateway Motorsports Park.
"I am very excited to be back with the SPM organisation," said Saavedra, who finished 11th in Toronto.
"It's another late call to jump in, but I take it with pride after a promising start of our relationship."
Piers Phillips, General Manager of SPM, added: "[I'm] delighted to have Sebastian back with the SPM team following what was a very encouraging performance at the Toronto event.
"He is experienced and competent, and will contribute to the overall performance of the team.
"We're heading to Pocono full of confidence as a team and we're looking forward to hopefully seeing Sebastian and James at the front of the pack."
Saavedra has four top 10 finishes from 63 races.
