Kaiser gets partial Juncos IndyCar deal
19 October 2017 – Juncos Racing has confirmed that Indy Lights champion Kyle Kaiser will run a partial IndyCar campaign with the team in 2018, as part of his scholarship programme.
Under the 'Mazda Road to Indy' project, the winner of the Indy Lights championship receives a $1m scholarship, to put towards a seat in the IndyCar Series.
Kaiser will compete at the Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis Grand Prix and two yet-to-be-determined events with Juncos, the team with which he won his Indy Lights title.
"I'm very excited to be moving up to the Verizon IndyCar Series with Juncos Racing," said 21-year-old Kaiser.
"Juncos has been a huge part of my recent success in the Mazda Road to Indy.
"I have the utmost confidence in the programme moving forward and I'm very thankful to everyone involved for making this possible,
"Now, I'm just anxious to get behind the wheel as soon as possible!"
IndyCar, meanwhile, welcomed the expansion of leading junior outfit Juncos, which made an initial foray into the premier class at this year's Indianapolis 500.
"IndyCar is happy to see Kyle and Juncos Racing take this step together since they have been an integral part of the Mazda Road to Indy system for four years," said IndyCar President Jay Frye.
"We welcomed Juncos Racing to the IndyCar Series at this year's Indianapolis 500, believing it would lead to a deeper involvement.
"Today's announcement shows this to be the case and we look forward to their participation in the four races in 2018, with hopefully many more to come."
