Binder afforded IndyCar chance with Juncos
6 January 2018 – Junior single-seater journeyman René Binder is to make his IndyCar debut with Juncos Racing this year after signing a four-race deal with the team.
Juncos will graduate to IndyCar from Indy Lights as part of Kyle Kaiser's four-event scholarship programme, and will field Binder in an additional four rounds.
The Austrian, 26, will debut in the season-opening round at St. Petersburg and pilot the No. 32 machine again at Barber, Mid-Ohio and Toronto.
"I am honoured to be a part of the IndyCar Series for the 2018 season," said Binder.
"I have been a huge fan of IndyCar and what the series has to offer to me as a driver.
"I had a hard decision to make this year on which path I would take in my career, and I am confident that I made the right decision.
"Right now, we have signed for four races, but I hope to add more to our schedule as the season progresses.
"I would like to thank my sponsors, family and Juncos Racing for giving me this opportunity."
Binder took seven points finishes from 74 starts in GP2/F2 and finished fourth in last year's Formula V8 3.5 series, his second full-year in the now-defunct category.
