Q3: Hamilton, Vettel, Bottas, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Ocon, Sainz Jr., Alonso, Perez
But it's Lewis Hamilton who takes pole position - his 11th of the campaign
Bottas does not improve - he's third
Raikkonen matches Ricciardo's lap to the thousandth of a second!
Verstappen goes fifth - and that demotes Raikkonen to sixth
Ricciardo moves ahead of Raikkonen to snatch fourth
Vettel moves into second - that splits the Mercedes!
The chequered flag is out
He kisses the Turn 1 apex perfectly before unleashing the car through the Esses - he's 0.006s up
Vettel is the first of the front runners to begin his final lap
The rest begin trickling out of the pit lane - can anyone beat Hamilton?
Sainz Jr. heads out for his first run in Q3
Hamilton suggests he suffered an engine de-rate exiting the final corner on his hot lap
Ricciardo is sixth, Ocon seventh, Alonso eighth, Perez ninth, and the yet-to-run Sainz Jr. at the foot of the top 10
After the first runs: Hamilton 1:33.108, Bottas +0.460, Raikkonen +0.744, Vettel +0.759, Verstappen +0.760
Raikkonen edges clear of Vettel by 0.015s
Vettel goes third - he's 0.759s down on Hamilton
Bottas registers a 1:33.568 - a gap of 0.460s
Hamilton comes across the line - it's a 1:33.108!
Hamilton has gained back time in the middle sector - he's two-tenths up on Bottas
The pursuing Bottas goes purple through the first sector
Hamilton's first sector is quick, though it's a fraction down on his Q2 effort
Hamilton is winding it up - he's the first to begin a lap
Nine of the 10 have headed out - just Sainz Jr. waits in the garage
Here we go. Q3 time.
Competing in Q3 will be Hamilton, Bottas, Raikkonen, Vettel, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Perez, Sainz Jr., Alonso and Ocon
Amid all the in-out shenanigans, Hamilton clocked a 1:33.437...
Therefore out in Q2 are Massa, Kvyat, Vandoorne, Grosjean and Hulkenberg
That leaves Perez in the drop zone, but he moves up, and that relegates Massa
Can Sainz Jr. make it? Yes he can! He goes seventh!
Massa goes ninth - and that relegates Sainz Jr. into the drop zone
Vandoorne improves - but he's only 13th, and he's out
Alonso goes seventh, and that demotes Massa to 11th
Neither Kvyat nor Grosjean make it, but the Russian moves ahead of Vandoorne
Chequered flag - but the laps are still being set
All 14 drivers are on track - and Kvyat begins his effort
Grosjean and Kvyat face a challenge to get into Q3 - they're seven-tenths behind Vandoorne. The battle between the rest, though, could be a lot closer!
Moments later, the remainder start filtering out of the pits
Kvyat, currently slowest of the 14 participants, gets the ball rolling as he ends the silence on track
Verstappen running the Super Softs means he will run the red-banded rubber for the first stint of the race, if dry conditions prevail - effectively the alternative strategy
After the first runs, Alonso, Vandoorne, Grosjean, Kvyat and Hulkenberg are in the drop zone
Raikkonen is only fifth, 0.983s down on Hamilton
Vettel moves into third spot - but he's 0.829s behind Hamilton
Verstappen puts his Red Bull fourth, on the Super Softs
Ricciardo goes third, albeit 0.935s behind Hamilton
Bottas slots into second position, 0.233s behind his team-mate
Hamilton comes across the line - it's a 1:33.560, smashing the track record
It's a little more slippery through the second sector
Hamilton guides his Mercedes almost effortlessly through the first sector
Hamilton and Bottas are straight out for Mercedes - no messing
And we're underway with Q2 - the slowest four drivers, and Hulkenberg, will be knocked out
Just 0.007s denied Ericsson a Q2 place - a fine effort
That means Ericsson, Stroll, Hartley, Wehrlein and Magnussen will take no further part in the session
Stroll is only 17th - he's out. Oh dear.
Ericsson bags 16th - that's a decent effort from the Swede
Vandoorne goes 12th, and that eliminates Hartley
Wehrlein runs wide through Turn 19 - but he still moves up to 17th spot
Hartley squeaks through for now!
Magnussen does not make it
Chequered flag is out
Grosjean goes up to 14th spot, that relegates Stroll
There's a fair few green sector times across the board
Grosjean's Haas is giving him all sorts of slides through the Esses, but it's a quick approach
Grosjean gears up for a lap - hopefully without encountering an errant Williams
In the drop zone is currently Wehrlein, Grosjean, Ericsson, Hartley and Magnussen
Amid the anger, Hamilton has popped into top spot with a 1:34.822, still on Super Softs
"What is he doing man! Always the same!" yells Perez
Elsewhere, Magnussen is under investigation for impeding Perez through Turn 13
A dawdling Stroll tried to get out of Grosjean's way, but succeeded in moving into the Frenchman's path, almost triggering a collision. Very silly from the youngster.
"What was that!" says Grosjean, as he encounters Stroll through the exit of Turn 19. That will be a slam dunk penalty for the Williams driver
Verstappen clocks a 1:34.899 on Ultra Softs to go top
Alonso's first effort moves him into second
Current order: BOT, OCO, RIC, RAI, SAI, VET, HAM, VAN, STR, WEH
Bottas is the only driver who got his lap hooked up - Raikkonen, Vettel and Hamilton all struggled on the red-banded tyre
Bottas, on Super Softs, posts a 1:35.309, Hamilton is 1.1s slower
Hamilton runs too deep into Turn 12 and bundles across the exit kerb
It's a scruffy lap from Hamilton, with a few wild moments through the latter parts of the Esses
Hamilton winds up for his first lap - he's on the Super Softs
"A lot of locking into Turn 11", reports Hartley - his first effort is 0.447s slower than Wehrlein's lap
Indeed, Wehrlein edges ahead of Kvyat with a 1:37.682
Kvyat puts the first time on the board, a not-hugely-rapid 1:37.865
The bulk of drivers are still in the pits as Kvyat circulates in the STR12
Kvyat is followed out by the Saubers and new team-mate Hartley
Kvyat is straight out for Toro Rosso as he battles to prove his worth after two races on the bench
Green light, we're underway for Q1
The final tweaks are being undertaken in the pit lane - it's almost time to get going
Juan Pablo Montoya, who raced in F1 between 2001 and 2006, is in the Williams garage for the session
For reference, air temperature is at 31°C, with the track at 39°C
The next five slowest after the 15-minute Q2 session will be knocked out, leaving the fastest 10 to battle for pole in Q3
As usual, qualifying will be divided into three segments, with the slowest five drivers eliminated after the 18-minute Q1 session
There are two DRS zones, located along the pits straight and back straight, and can be used at any time during qualifying
However, in a tweak, the Ultra Soft has a pink band, as part of Formula 1's push to raise awareness of Breast Cancer
Pirelli has nominated the Ultra Soft, Super Soft and Soft tyre compounds for this weekend's event
Somewhat ironically, Gasly's quest of the Super Formula title was prematurely ended, with the Suzuka finale cancelled due to the impending arrival of Typhoon Lan

Vandoorne (five places), Hulkenberg (20 places) and Hartley (25 places) have all received sanctions for engine changes

Vettel has taken three pole positions this season, in Russia, Hungary and Singapore
Vettel emerged as Hamilton's primary challenger in the third practice session, finishing just 0.092s behind, suggesting he will be a factor in proceedings
