Márquez fastest in opening Le Mans practice
16 May 2014 – Reigning World Champion Marc Márquez set the standard during the first practice session for the French Grand Prix on Friday morning.
The Repsol Honda rider clocked a time of 1:34.328 to lead team-mate and closest championship rival Dani Pedrosa by 0.189 seconds.
Factory Yamaha duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo followed in third and fourth, with Gresini rider Álvaro Bautista completing the top five.
LCR rider Stefan Bradl finished the opening session of the day in sixth position, just ahead of Andrea Dovizioso's lead Ducati.
On the second Desmosedici, Cal Crutchlow wound up 12th fastest, half a second adrift of his team-mate.
Bradley Smith crashed early on, falling off his Tech 3 Yamaha machine at the Chemin aux Boeufs esses. He was unharmed in the incident and managed to rejoin the action later in the session on his spare bike.
