Dovizioso fastest in wet second practice
19 May 2017 – Andrea Dovizioso clocked the fastest time during Friday's second practice session for the French Grand Prix, which took place in wet conditions.
After a damp/dry FP1, rain returned ahead of FP2 and gradually increased as the session wore on, with lap times considerably slower as a result.
Dovizioso's best lap of 1:41.673 was four seconds down on Miller's morning benchmark, placing further emphasis on Saturday's final practice session.
As it stands, Miller, Marc Márquez, Johann Zarco, Cal Crutchlow, Loris Baz, Karel Abraham, Bradley Smith, Valentino Rossi, Álvaro Bautista and Maverick Viñales are through to Q2.
Dani Pedrosa, Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo ended first practice in the midfield and will be hoping for better conditions in FP3 to avoid having to run in Q1.
Ducati's Dovizioso edged out Honda rival Márquez in FP2, with just under half a tenth separating the pair, followed by Pramac team-mates Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding.
Andrea Iannone put his Suzuki fifth, ahead of Aspar's Álvaro Bautista, who was the final rider to get within a second of Dovizioso in the wet conditions.
FP1 pace-setter Miller took seventh, with Viñales, Aprilia's Sam Lowes and Rossi rounding out the top 10 positions.
KTM's Pol Espargaró suffered an early fall as he dropped his bike at low speed at Turn 8.
Saturday's final practice session at Le Mans will begin at 09:55 local time
