Kallio gets KTM wildcard for Austrian GP
10 August 2017 – KTM test rider Mika Kallio will make his second MotoGP outing of the campaign at the manufacturer's home event in Austria this weekend.
Kallio has been handed a wildcard to compete at the Red Bull Ring, alongside regular racers Pol Espargaró and Bradley Smith.
Kallio has spent the bulk of his racing career in the secondary 250cc/Moto2 category, sandwiching a two-year spell in the premier class, during which he claimed a best result of seventh.
He took up a role as KTM's test rider in 2016, ahead of the manufacturer's MotoGP bow, and wildcarded in Valencia last year and at this season's German round.
Kallio finished in 16th position at the Sachsenring, narrowly missing out on a point, having crossed the line just a tenth of a second down on Marc VDS rival Jack Miller.
Kallio's presence means 24 riders will participate in the premier class at the Austrian Grand Prix.
