Rins to ride with updated Suzuki chassis
10 August 2017 – Álex Rins is to finally use Suzuki's updated chassis at this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix as the manufacturer bids to revive its MotoGP fortunes.
Suzuki enjoyed a strong 2016 campaign, with Maverick Viñales triumphing at Silverstone, but its results have plummeted this season, amid struggles for rookie Rins and team-mate Andrea Iannone.
Suzuki is ahead of only KTM in the Teams' standings, with Rins having taken just two points finishes, in a season blighted by injury.
Iannone, meanwhile, holds a lowly 16th in the championship, with only four points finishes.
Iannone has used Suzuki's updated chassis since the post-Barcelona test in June and Rins will be equipped with the same package for the upcoming round at the Red Bull Ring.
"After the race in Brno we had one day of testing last Monday," said Rins.
"I believe we were able to make important steps forward and I'm very satisfied by the results and the work we're doing with the team.
"We have to be patient and work step-by-step, putting all our efforts into it to get where I believe we belong.
"It's going to be a long haul but I think we're on a good path."
Iannone captured his sole MotoGP victory at the Red Bull Ring last season, while competing for Ducati.
