Aprilia 'close' to deal with Redding for 2018
13 August 2017 – Aprilia Racing Manager Romano Albesiano has indicated that the team is close to completing a deal with Scott Redding for the 2018 MotoGP campaign.
Aprilia currently fields Aleix Espargaró and Sam Lowes, but issued notice to the Briton earlier this week that he will not be retained next year, after activating a clause in his contract.
Redding, meanwhile, has lost his Pramac seat for 2018 after the team signed current Marc VDS rider Jack Miller to partner incumbent Danilo Petrucci next season.
Albesiano confirmed to BT Sport that Aprilia is "hopefully close" to an agreement with Redding, who competed for Gresini, now running Aprilia's effort, in 2014, when the team used Honda machinery.
"Scott is young, he's still a young rider, but with good experience," Albesiano explained.
"He's always been fast, he never fully succeeded in MotoGP, but the potential is still there.
"He's a solid rider, we definitely need a rider like him for next year."
Redding sits 15th in the 2017 standings with a best result of seventh in Qatar.
