Márquez heads FP3 as Rossi makes Q2
23 September 2017 – Reigning World Champion Marc Márquez led the way as all six manufacturers had a representative inside the top 10 during the third practice session for the Aragón Grand Prix.
Amid a late flurry of times, with the 45-minute session deciding the riders who qualify automatically for Q2, Márquez moved to the front with a 1:48.252, 0.310s faster than Maverick Viñales.
Dani Pedrosa finished third, while Aspar's Álvaro Bautista claimed fourth, ahead of KTM wildcard rider Mika Kallio, who was present among the leading gaggle of riders throughout the session.
Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso was sixth, in front of Aprilia's Aleix Espargaró, LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow and Suzuki's Andrea Iannone, who crashed at Turn 5 late in the session.
Valentino Rossi, riding just three weeks after breaking his leg in a training crash, gradually improved throughout the session and wound up in 10th place, automatically securing a Q2 place.
Jorge Lorenzo missed out as he took only 11th, while Pol Espargaró was unable to match team-mate Kallio and placed 12th, in front of Danilo Petrucci and Tito Rabat.
Jack Miller crashed at Turn 1 en route to 15th position, while Tech 3 pair Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger also hit the deck, the latter with some discomfort to his neck, winding up 19th and 23rd respectively.
