Ducati: Rear tyre choice crucial for race
24 September 2017 – Ducati pair Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso believe rear tyre choice will be critical to the manufacturer's prospects of victory at the Aragón Grand Prix.
MotoGP teams have been left with a relative lack of data over the characteristics of the Soft, Medium and Hard compounds due to Friday's sessions being affected by inclement weather.
Lorenzo will line up from second on the grid, having successfully negotiated Q1, while Dovizioso – level on points with title leader Marc Márquez – will take the start from seventh position.
"I had some great sensations both in FP4 and in qualifying and it was quite a surprise to be on the front row if you look at my times," said Lorenzo.
"This time it was useful to take part in Q1 because I was able to do a lot more laps with the Soft tyres and prepare better for Q2.
"I think I have a good pace, but it will be very important to choose the rear tyre and manage it well during the race.
"In any case I'm ready to do a good race."
Dovizioso, victor of four Grands Prix this season, commented: "Even though I'm starting a bit behind in seventh place, I think I have a good chance for the race.
"It will be the choice of rear tyre that will make all the difference.
"For us, all three options are interesting, and we haven't decided which one to choose yet."
