Viñales completes first laps at Kyalami
14 December 2017 – Maverick Viñales became the first MotoGP rider to complete laps at the revamped Kyalami circuit earlier this week when he took part in the Yamaha 'R World' event.
Viñales visited the track on Friday for a private test, followed by a six-lap session, along with National Superbike and Supersport Yamaha riders and 10 Yamaha customers.
A resdesign and upgrades were recently carried out at Kyalami, which used to host Formula 1, with governing body the FIA awarding a Grade 2 licence.
"The 'R World' riding experience was so good," said Viñales.
"I really liked riding the bike and I've been enjoying my stay in South Africa and riding at the Kyalami International Race Track a lot," commented Viñales.
"The people that I met here were great and we had a lot of fun. A lot of fans came here, I'm really happy and I appreciate the fans' and also the staff's support.
"I'm just really glad to be here and I for sure would like to come back.
"The track is really nice, it's like an old-school style track."
Viñales finished third in the 2017 MotoGP standings with three wins.
